In a group containing both images and Flash the 'next' and 'prev' links on the images are disabled. Is this a bug or a design feature? Would it be possible to make it an option.

That's by design. The overlay navigation is available only on top of images. Most flash cannot have anything overlayed on top of it. In its default mode, flash is actually running in its own window over top of the browser and is always above everything in the browser content, including any navigation widgets we might try to insert.
